Sungai Jodoh

A long time ago in the deep of Batam Island, there’s a village where a girl who has not parent stayed there called Mah Bongsu, she became a servant in Mah Piah’s house. Mak Piah has a daughter named Siti Mayang. One day Mah Bongsu washed her boss’s clothes in a river. “Snake …!” Mah Bongsu screamed when she see the snake closer, actually, it was not dangerous. It was swimming over there to show its injury on its back. Mah Bongsu encouraged her self to take the sick snake, and bring it at home.

Mah Bongsu kept the snake till it’s healthy and be well. The outer skin of the snake got peeled off little by little. Mah Bongsu took the skin and burned it. Miracle …. When Mah Bongsu burn the skin, suddenly have a big fog. If the fog directed to Singapore suddenly appeared a stack of gold and money. If the fog directed to Japan, suddenly appeared many electronic those made in Japan. If the fog directed to Bandar Lampung town, suddenly appeared a dozen of Tapis Lampung Clothes. In a two month till three month Mak Bungsu be more rich than Mak Piah.

Mbah Bungsu has made the other people of the town thought hard. “I believe that she has Tuyul?” Mak Piah said. Than Pak Buntal underlined his wife’s statement “she hasn’t Tuyul! But she stalled my wealth”. Many people wanted to know why Mah Bongsu became rich. But it wasn’t simple, they looked it for hardly for a long time. But it was never success.

“Its no problem, we didn’t loose anything!” Mak Ungkai said to her nightbour. Mak Ungkai and her neighbor so said thank you to Mak Bungsu. She had helped for their needs. Mak Bungsu also helped everyone who need her help. They said that Mak Bungsu was a nice person.

Mak Piah and Siti Nayang were joules. Almost every night they spy on Mak Bungsu’s house.” Wow, there is a big snake?” Mak Piah said. “If we burn the sneke’s skin, we will get gold!” Mak Piah said slowly. “Mmm…. I must get the big snake like that”. Mak Piah said to her self.

So Mak Piah went to forest to looking for a snake. Just for a moment she got a snake that has poison. “This snake must be able to give me more gold, I trust it! She was thinking. Than, she went home with bring the snake. At night Siti Mayang slept with the snake, “I am afraid the snake bite me!” She screamed. “Don’t afraid my daughter. Keep your brave; the snake will make us be a rich”. Mak Piah said.

Next day, Mah Bungsu’s snake was well from its sick. She loves it so much. When she gave food for the snake, she surprised. “Don’t be surprised! Bring me to the river that we have met first”, the snake said. In the river, the snake talked what it’s willing. “Mah Bungsu I won’t to give you some thing as a present for your help that has given to me” the snake said. I want you be my wife, it continued. Mah Bungsu feel surprised, she can’t say any thing.

The snake leaved its skin and became a handsome young man and the skin became a beauty house. That’s why this place called “Tiban” the meaning of Tiban is getting something big suddenly.

Finally they both were married and happy together. They make a big party to celebrate this special day. Many guess came and gave congratulation to them.

Beside these, Mak Piah who has bad characters was so sad. Her daughter Siti Mayang was died by the snake’s poison.

In the past time, the people who life over there believes that the river where Mah Bungsu met with the snake was a mirage place. We have known that mirage in Indonesia means Jodoh and river in Indonesia is Sungai. That’s this please called “Sungai Jodoh”.
